Thank you all for a great 2021 Farmyard season! Our Farmyard Friends are saying “see ya later” until spring of 2022! Check out our frequently asked questions about our animals during the off-season.

Where do the animals go during the winter?

The animals stay at Lambs Farm! All our Farmyard friends are permanent residents. The cold-intolerant animals move to more heated areas, the tortoises come inside the Discovery Center, young or old animals go in the Pig Barn, and Animal Keepers wrap the Birdhouse in thick plastic to keep the wind out. Barns are bedded thickly with warm, cozy straw and areas are fortified to keep the animals nice and toasty. Our barns often stay 20-30 degrees warmer than the outside temperatures, ensuring that even in the most severe weather, our animals are safe and warm! Staff work hard every single day to take care of all the animals.

How do the animals stay warm?

In the fall, the outdoor animals grow long winter coats that they fluff up to retain heat. Some of the senior animals get extra help by being brought to warmer barns or wearing blankets to stay extra snuggly. Animal Keepers also feed the animals extra hay rations to stimulate digestion which keeps their body heat up. The breakdown of the fibrous hay ferments and creates heat in the animal’s digestive system, warming them from the inside out! The Farmyard’s automatic waterers deliver fresh, warm water 24/7 and Animal Keepers add special, animal-safe water heaters to areas that don’t have automatic waterers, ensuring optimal hydration during the winter months.

What about holidays?

Our Farmyard friends celebrate holidays with their Animal Keepers! Our Animal Keepers work day after day to take care of the animals. They make sure to give special treats to their beloved animals, especially during the holiday season! Since our Animal Keepers consider their animals family, they don’t mind spending the holidays caring for them! Staff don’t work all day at the Farmyard on holidays — they have morning and evening shifts so they can spend time with their families too!

When will you open again?

Lambs Farm’s other businesses are open year-round! You can still come out and support our mission by visiting our Magnolia Cafe & Bakery, Dogwood Garden & Pet Center, Cedar Chest Thrift Shop, and Sugar Maple Country Store. As for the Farmyard, stay tuned! We will be sharing winter updates about our Farmyard friends (follow us on Facebook and Instagram) throughout the off-season and releasing the 2022 season Opening Day at a later date!

Thank you, again, for a successful 2021 Farmyard season!
